Connecticut House Democrats receive Thanksgiving Day bomb threats

WASHINGTON – Multiple House Democrats from Connecticut including the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee were targets of Thanksgiving Day bomb threats at their homes Thursday.
All members and their families are safe, and no bombs were found.
The threats came one day after several Cabinet nominees of President-elect Donald Trump received similar bomb threats.
“This morning, I was notified of a bomb threat targeting my home where I was celebrating Thanksgiving,” Jim Himes, D-Conn., chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, said in a statement, adding that there was no evidence that a bomb was found after a “swift and thorough” response.
“There is no place for political violence in this country, and I hope we may all continue through the holiday season with police and civility,” he said.

Rep. Jahana Hayes, D-Conn., in a statement also said she received a bomb threat Thursday morning in an email that stated a pipe bomb had been placed in her mailbox. She said police and other law enforcement were notified. No bomb or explosive materials were found.
“On this Thanksgiving, I am grateful for my family and loved ones. I plan to spend the day with them and hope you all do the same. May you have a safe and happy Thanksgiving,” Hayes said.
Rep. Joe Courtney, D-Conn., also received a bomb threat, a spokesman for the congressman said. Like the other incidents, a bomb was not found.
“Joe and Audrey extend their utmost gratitude to the law enforcement officers, whose response should signal to perpetrators that these types of threats will not be tolerated,” a spokesperson said in a statement reported by the NBC affiliate in Connecticut.
